TOWN STAGES

Town Stages is a new 10,000 sqft event space in Tribeca and home to the nonprofit, Sokoloff Arts. Using for-profit business models to subsidize their nonprofit mission, they are reimagining what equity and access look like in New York City spaces. Events at Town Stages subsidize space for under-represented voices and companies with financial barriers to access. Their flagship program, the Sokoloff Arts Creative Fellowship Program, is in its second year and houses nearly 30 artists—offering mentorship, space, and development.

Centrally located in the heart of Tribeca, Town Stages includes 25 feet of frontage on West Broadway and 40 feet of frontage on White Street. Surrounded by some of the best restaurants and hotels in the city like Frenchette, The Roxy, and Bâtârd where four major avenues intersect right below famed shopping hub SOHO—our foot traffic patterns are high year-round. Town sits atop the 1 at Franklin St. and is easily accessible from the A, C, E, N, Q, R, W, 6, 1, 2, 3, J, M, Z trains hubs just north and south of our storefront -, where 95,000+ riders pass through daily.

SOKOLOFF ARTS

OUR MISSION

Sokoloff Arts (501c3) is a women-led cultural institution creating inspired space and cutting edge experiences at Town Stages. Helmed by a team of women from different backgrounds and multi-hyphenate artistic disciplines, Sokoloff Arts builds viable and safe places to congregate, strives to promote cross-cultural community activations, and blends the arts and business sectors to design sustainable solutions to social and financial inequalities in New York City and abroad.

OUR STORY

Loft227 opened in the spring of 2012 as a performance and event venue providing enterprise level resources to support new works that inspire, enlighten, and strengthen communities through interactive entertainment and political action—and shortly thereafter,  Sokoloff Arts was born.

Loft227 grew to support 20,000 emerging artists, entrepreneurs, and their audiences, with an emphasis on the advancement of underrepresented voices. During their 5 years, Sokoloff Arts was able to donate over $215,000 each year in sponsorship, rehearsal hours, and production dollars to the best and brightest innovators New York City has to offer, support more than 600 live events, create jobs for over 54 local freelance artists, and welcome more than 70,000 unique visitors. In 2017, Sokoloff Arts looked to expand its vision by opening a larger space that could respond to its growing needs. Town Stages opened its doors to the public in November 2017.

SOKOLOFF CREATIVE ARTS FELLOWSHIP

Part residency, part incubator, and part home base, a Creative Fellowship with Sokoloff Arts offers the ultimate creative freedom to grow within our walls and beyond. The Sokoloff Arts Creative Fellowship is dedicated to providing space, perspective, and opportunity. We foster a community where all are welcome and everyone’s biases are challenged. We encourage those who feel silenced, marginalized, and otherwise “other-ed” to share their experiences, and remain dedicated to conversation and community
